5 TIPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR CAR BETWEEN SERVICES

Man checking oil levels

For most people, if everything is going well, you won’t have to think that much about your car. That doesn’t mean, however, that you should take it for granted. If you want your car to be there for you when you need it, you’ll have to give it what it needs too.

Of course, the best thing you can do for car maintenance is to bring it to us at Change Auto & Diesel in Calgary regularly. We can perform an extensive maintenance check on your vehicle to make sure everything is as it should be.

That being said, there’s also a lot you can do between services that will keep your car running smoothly and efficiently. And when it comes to your car, efficiency translates into savings for you on gas and repairs. Here are just five easy things you can do to help maintain your vehicle:

1. Keep it clean

A modern car is made to withstand a lot without much maintenance, including Calgary winters. They’re complex machines that have been endlessly tested before they get on the road. To maintain that like-new performance, however, will require you to keep it clean—inside and out. Cars are tough but dirt can interfere with pretty much any mechanical process if there’s enough of it.

2. Check your windows

You might not notice it, but your car windows aren’t glass like you probably have in your windows at home. Rather, they’re high-impact glass—much tougher than your ordinary window. Part of what makes this glass tough is its internal structure. Once that structure is broken, even by a small crack, the overall integrity is compromised and it’s much less resistant to impacts.

3. Test your brakes

Your brakes aren’t an area where you want to hope they work. Be conscious of how well your brakes are functioning and if you notice anything at all change about how your brakes are functioning, bring your car in to an expert to be tested. You don’t want to risk a high-speed accident.

4. Keep your tire pressure at recommended levels

Your tires are essential to your car’s functioning and, though you might not guess it, probably one of its most high-tech components. Under-inflated tires have a dramatic effect on gas-mileage so be sure to always have them pressurized to the appropriate levels (you can find this number in your owner’s manual).

5. Check your oil

If gas is the food that your car needs regularly to function, its engine oil would be its blood. Letting your oil get too low can do serious damage to your engine so be sure it’s at recommended levels.

If you notice anything wrong with your vehicle or simply want to be sure that you’re getting the most value out of your investment, bring it to us at Change Auto & Diesel for car maintenance in Calgary. We’re experts in everything automobile and can get you back on the road as quickly as possible
